You may not have “DEFACED” the US Flag, but some might say that altering our flag in ANY way offends people and desecrates it.

While you may have MEANT well, usflag.org has published the Standards of Respect for our flag on its site:

    • The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal.

    • The flag should not be used as a drapery, or for covering a speakers desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.

    • The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

    • The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

    • The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.

    • The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

Coloring it pink and using it to show support for any cause other than as a symbol of our country can be considered advertising.

Maybe considering this Flag Etiquette before you order your next batch of “pink flags” might be a good idea.

I think it’s great you have time to express your opinion and that is what makes this country the best. We as Americans have the right to our own opinion and with that their will be occasion when we will disagree. You bring up some very good points but you miss what other Americans may feel is important to them. The American flag is a symbol of hope for so many. What we did is create an item for people to show and share hope with someone in their life that may have either died or has gone through Cancer. Many customers have purchased this item and had the name of their loved ones embroidered on it as a tribute or memory to them. We worked very hard with the largest US manufacture of Flags to develop this item and with their guidance came up with this flag. You mention “coloring it pink and using it to show support for any cause as a symbol of our country can be considered advertising” and that is why in the design you will see no mention of our brand or any affiliation with our company at all in fact we dont even profit from the flags it is something we truly did for the customers we have. I come from a military family and proudly fly my American flag in front of my house so while I understand your opinion and repsect it I feel the meaning behind this flag far out weighs the negative.

    Thanks for your comment
